How We Used to Live – screening plus Q&A – Curzon Soho 16th April

How We Used to Live - screening plus Q&A - Curzon Soho 16th April

A unique celebration of post-war London by acclaimed director Paul Kelly, created through a compelling use of rare footage drawn from the BFI National Archive and original music by Saint Etienne with a spellbinding narration by Ian McShane. Using only colour footage from 1950 – 1980 How We Used to Live covers the early days of the welfare state up to the opening years of Margaret Thatcher’s reign. From the shadow of the war and the great future created by the welfare state to the rise of individualism and the triumph of the consumer society, it is as much a lyrical cinematic meditation on life now as then.

We will welcome director Kelly and writers Bob Stanley and Travis Elborough for a post screening discussion.

Event: London Stories Live at the London Transport Museum with Mark Mason and Hannah Velten Monday 2nd March

Event: London Stories Live with Mark Mason and Hannah Velten Monday 2nd March

“Three authors reveal the inspiration behind their London stories and give short readings. Travis Elborough’s book, ‘A London Year: 365 days of the city life in diaries, journals and letters’ is an anthology of diary entries from Tudor times to the 21st century. Hannah Velten discusses ‘Beastly London’ and how animals have always been important in the story of London, while Mark Mason describes his odyssey over several hundred miles as he walked the entire length of the London Underground system – over-ground – passing every station along the way in his book, ‘Walk the Lines’. The audience will have the opportunity to purchase books and have them signed after the event.”
